5. Development of Ideas

I have created a mind map on the ideas for a 2D platformer game, a game that i will create myself.


With my mind map, i have created two different ideas for a Platformer game. The first idea, is of a hooded thief trespassing and sneaking into a museum and stealing a prized, famous painting, without getting caught by guards. It’s game play would be very much stealth based, with action/ fighting involved. Below is a mood board of different images i seemed both related to my idea or what i took inspiration off.

This is similar and relating to Metal Gear Solid, where the player must use both stealth and fighting to save the day and complete their task. The platforms would be several thing, that being boxes, displays, sculptures and hanging fossils (Dinosaurs).
The game would have the player have parkour included to, resorting to jumping on platforms right over enemies heads in order to escape them, however the hanging platforms would begin to swing as in a real life museum, as they are just hung by wires.
The game’s layout would be structured on a horizontal line, and the player would be followed with the camera to ensure all areas are discovered and an easier transition then just having one single frame. It can also have more exploration in the game, as the player can travel back or forwards, up or down to see if they left any figurative stones unturned.
There would be one enemy type, guards, which they would play out as in a ‘Goomba’ from Mario, where they would walk and you would have to dodge past them. They will be armed with a flashlight, as the level is dark as in to be set at night, they would also have a walkie talkie to call the other guards if you, the player, were spotted. This would result in a game over.
The playable, thief character would be based on a variety of different people from games i play, and i will take inspiration from them to create my own unique character. The below picture is a mood board of characters i thought to take inspiration off. The character/player should act more elegant than the enemies, as the enemies are acting as security guards that are stereotypical big and buff, the main character (As a thief) should be able to act in ninja-styled way, being able to parkour and double jump.
